As an individual who has spent the vast majority of their life taking in stray, sick, abandoned, abused & mistreated animals of practically every species, I feel we must take things back in hand. Animals are a very important part of all our lives. The roles they play range from being a part of our food supply to being our companions and cherished family pets. Dogs & horses have been a huge portion of search and rescue missions and served our military and law enforcement as partners. Many of us have dogs and cats - and even horses, cows, chickens and swine - as pets. But the lines have become horribly blurred and they are becoming more so every day. People have lost sight in reality. Not every animal needs - nor wants - to be an inside pet. Appropriate care should always be taken with them. We should never stand by and allow any animal to be abused. That is a crime, and most animal abusers also abuse their family and fellow man. It takes a cruel heart to beat, starve or otherwise abuse an innocent - be it human or animal. But labeling every person that chooses to own & breed an animal as criminal is simply beyond reason. It is insanity to believe that we are asking too much to want a pure bred animal. There is no crime in electing to purchase an animal from a breeder. We desire an animal for a certain purpose and breeders know what those needs are. They know the history of their bloodlines and the "jobs" these animals will be most successful at. Not every dog is meant to be a ladies lap dog or lovable family pet. No one breed is going to be successful at being a service dog. They simply are not all bred to have the "right stuff". And no one should ever try to bring shame on a person for wanting to purchase a dog of known history.
Thirty years ago when I entered into the "rescue" world it was not to make money. In fact, I knew I was entering a world which would call for sacrifice on all fronts. I knew the thought of having a chance at making money was not going to happen. Shelters and rescues ran on shoestring budgets and always ended in the red. We were in it to help the animals and the owners of those animals. Our goal was not to strip owners of their animals. Our goal was to help them! We tried to provide aide where possible and educate people on how to properly handle the situations. We often took in animals when requested to. We would return the animal to health when possible then we would adopt them out to owners who knew how to and were able to care for those animals. And we did so WITHOUT CHARGING FEES! The adoption fee entering the process was the beginning of the end as far as I can see. Greed entered the picture and soon RESCUE & SHELTER/HUMANE SOCIETIES morphed into nothing more than money grabbing scams. It is a shame and outright disgrace what has become of a very good entity. Now all you see are warped images made to look far worse than they are and pleas to send money. THIS is a disgrace! It is outright theft as well. To go in and take someone's animals - without just cause as well as without going through the legal channels - is theft. Ruining people's lives and reputations by spreading outright lies and warping facts is beyond INHUMANE! Yet we see it occurring every single day. Our lives are being destroyed, our property being stolen AND SOLD by those branding themselves as rescue/humane societies for much more than the breeder would be selling the animals. We MUST realize we are all being played and scammed! And we must step up and speak out for our rights! No one else can do it for you! If we all continue to just sit by and allow this to happen, the day is soon to come that animal ownership will cease to be.
I do not abdicate for allowing abuse of animals in any way! But I do not support the actions being taken by the Animal Rights Terrorists which are taking our nation by storm. It is a sick world in which we can not choose to raise/use or own an animal based on someone else's belief that it is wrong. These animals would suffer horridly if we did not own them and care for them! Do you really believe turning all the domestic animals loose to "roam free" would be a good thing for them? How long would your dog last if you did not provide him/her food, water & regular health care? What of the horses and other livestock? How well will they fare running loose? There is not enough grazing lands in the entire United States for these animals to feed on. That isn't even mentioning the fact they will breed unchecked, and run freely on the roadways where they will be in contact with vehicles - endangering both the lives of the animals and the humans in those vehicles.
The animal rights terrorists want to make you believe that animals are "slaves" to us humans, but is that remotely even true? THINK!!! Stop crying at their commercials and THINK!!! Without the care of humans, what life will these animals have?
We do need Animal WELFARE, what we do NOT need is Animal RIGHTS.
